Sarah Jane at Wishon 2009

December 4, 2009

Last night I had a beautiful dream I met a cute boy who was full of laughter and we giggled together and had easy fun and fell in love. It was a sweet dream, eliciting happiness and hope. I woke up smiling.
It reminded me of why romantic love is good. It can bring you so much joy.
I have not had this type of love for 10 years. I have dated some guys since that relationship ended, but I wasn't having much fun. What I had been doing was playing teacher to guys who lack communication skills and consideration for others.
Now that I have performed my spiritual community service in educating these lads about how to more kindly and directly interact with others, I am done. They were my teachers too, so it was a good deal, but not FUN.
Now I am accepting applications only from compassionate guys who can speak what is on their minds fearlessly and unhesitatingly and who love to laugh all day and all night – intelligent, silly and amazing at communication.
I do not wish for love because I am lonely. My dream reminded me that having a best friend who loves you is one of the loveliest feelings in the world. Yet I do not long, yearn or pine for such a relationship. Just being open to it means it can happen. Lately, I have been extremely ambivalent about the idea of having a man, remembering the hard work of dealing with guys who engage in douche baggery. It's tiresome and only rewarding on a deep level. But I'm ready to be rewarded on all levels, from the deepest to the most

Unfortunately, not every thorn has a rose.

superficial.
The previous night or maybe two nights previous, I dreamed a beautiful pink rosebud grew tall among a tangle of thorn bushes. It had a note attached to it that said, "I need a wedding photographer."
I have dealt with many thorns, so maybe it's time for the rose. Or maybe it's time to stop watching "Rock of Love."
