nice, compact camera? advice?

Postby sarahjane » Wed Feb 24, 2010 5:39 pm

Any advice for picking out a camera to take climbing? Small, light and takes good photos are key.
I have a cheap piece of shit I'm replacing that was small and light, but the photos aren't consistently good.
Do not want to spend more than $400 including tax. Prefer to buy in a store where I can take it back if need be -- not the Internet, but perhaps I could be swayed.

I am partial to Canons since I've owned them for the past 10 years. Mega pixels don't matter unless you're going to make huge enlargements. Optical Zoom is better than Digital Zoom. If you find one with an Image Stabilizer, get it! Helps to reduce blur if you're shaky or in poor light. Check out the stores to see what you like, then go here: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ I've ordered almost all of my camera stuff through them and they are awesome! No sales tax and shipping is cheap and fast! They are a huge company, so don't be afraid.
